Originally Panmure Golf Club was a 9 hole course in Monifeith when it was founded in 1845 before extending to the full 18 in 1880. The club then relocated to its current home in Barry in 1899.
The links course is used for Open qualifying when it is played at Carnoustie a few miles down the road. Many changes have been made to the original design, the most significant of which were made by James Braid in 1922.
In addition to the sand dunes you would expect from a links course, Panmure also has hillocks and heather to test the seaside golfer.
Panmure is a real hidden gem and not to be missed. It’s just over 30 miles from Elie and will take just over an hour to drive there passing through some beautiful parts of Fife before crossing the magnificent Tay Road Bridge into Angus.
