Records show that golf was palyed as far back as 1650 on what formerly became Gullane No. 1 in 1884 although the designer is unknown. Gullane No. 1 is the senior course of the three available to play and is of championship standard used for final qualifying for The Open.
The first and last few holes take you up and then back down into the picturesque village of Gullane. The view on reaching the 7th however is breathtaking as its vantage point gives the golfer a 360 degree view over East Lothian, the Firth of Forth and across to Fife.
The course itself is a typical challenge of links golf with undulating fairways, numerous bunkers protecting the wonderfully manicured greens and always with the possibility of some sea breezes.
Gullane No. 1 is just under 70 miles from Elie and should take an hour and forty by car.
6,583 yards, par 71
