North of Fife lies Angus and the championship course at Carnoustie is the best known in this region. However there are many other fine links to explore and another championship course that should certainly be considered is the fabulous Panmure Golf Club.
East Lothian lies south of Fife and on the other side of the Firth of Forth. Again the visiting golfer is spoilt for choice, and of the many great courses to play, Gullane No.1, Luffness New Golf Club and North Berwick Golf Club all offer the highest standard of traditional links golf and a warm welcome at their friendly clubhouses.
Panmure is a real hidden gem and not to be missed. In addition to the sand dunes you would expect from a links course, Panmure also has hillocks and heather to test the seaside golfer.
It’s only just over an hour from Elie by car.
As a regular qualifying course for the Open Championship the quality of this course is undisputed. It also has views to rival any other, helping to make a round here truly memorable. Gullane is just over an hour and a half’s drive from Elie.
The club here was established back in 1832, making it one of the oldest in the country. It has regularly been a qualifying course for the Open Championship and has twice hosted the British Seniors Open Championship.
North Berwick is 75 miles from Elie and it takes an hour and three quarters to drive there.
Designed by Old Tom Morris and founded in 1894, the course at Luffness has a great golfing pedigree. A fair test of golf it punishes those that stray off line or who struggle to master the breeze that so often blows off the Firth of Forth. Luffness New is an hour and a half’s drive from Elie.
